If you’re like me, you’re trying to figure out how 1/12 of the year has already passed us by. January is now long gone and we’re staring February in the face.
First off, I hope you all had a great start to 2018 like I did.
I rang in the new year surrounded by great people and lively conversation (thank god BitCoin didn’t come up!). The night was amazing and better yet, woke up with no hangover which, when compared to last year, was a HUUUUGEE victory.
I then went alcohol free (basically no holiday drinks considering I don’t drink much anyways) for the next two weeks in preparation for my third half marathon and second Phoenix Rock N Roll.
The race went well for the first 7+ miles but then I hit a wall. I’m not sure why, though, as this is usually the point where I hit my “runner’s high” and cruise. (I’m blaming the oatmeal. Haha.) On top of that, I was battling an aching achilles tendon that flared up around the nine mile mark (aka the uphill) which slowed my pace again. Even with these issues, I was still able to PR with a time of 1:49:12.
My view is that the journey is more important than the final destination. My training program was fantastic, I got in amazing shape and I feel great which I think is the entire point.
I have another half marathon at the end of February which is all downhill so barring any physical problems, another PR should be on the horizon. Also, please pray for me because the race starts at 6am and I have to be there by 5:15, which means I’ll be up at 3am on a Saturday prepping to go run. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
The week after the race I headed up to Utah for a weekend road trip back to Arizona. Most of you have already read about it so I won’t elaborate, but if you missed it, you can find all three posts here.
(Never got to the Grand Canyon. Sad Face.)
My house also saw a new roommate move in so we’re back to 3/3 and while we’re sometimes alcoholic degenerates, we’re also some of the most health conscious people you’ll meet. Cheers to balance!
We’re still doing slight tweaks to furniture and decorating but the place looks as good as it ever has and we’re intent to keep it that way. Well…. we are hosting a Super Bowl Party so don’t hold us to this.
I also took in a wine and balloon festival with Erin and her family last weekend (she only took part in the balloon festival…please send disappointed fan mail to IDKWhySheDoesntLikeWine@gmail.com). I’m not sure why I didn’t take any photos at the balloon festival but Erin did so please head over to her blog for all the great pictures. However, I doubt she’ll mind if I borrow just one to show off her great photography skills.

In other random news, I’ve gotten the roommates and friends to take up bowling which is a great alternative to the bars and it’s much more fun. We’re all getting a lot better and looking to turn pro any day. ESPN, stay alert now!
January was also for the puppers (ie: Only Rory). Everyone should meet Rory as she’s a bundle of joy that will never cease to make you smile. Good job to Mama Rory (both Rory’s actual mom and dog-mom Erin) for raising such a good girl. 10/10.

Back to me. I’m wrapping up the last week of January in Las Vegas for a work summit which should be fun but also super-duper hectic.
I get back late Friday night, February 2nd, and then the Waste Management Open, aka The Peoples Open, aka The Wasted Open, aka A Golf Frat Party, takes place on Saturday morning. The next day is the Super Bowl, meaning I’ll be near death come Monday. Wish me luck.
