Exploring Torrey Pines State Preserve

This past weekend, I headed out to California for one of my close friend’s bachelor party. With all the shenanigans taking place, we needed a few hours outside where we weren’t doing horrendous things to our bodies.

And Torrey Pines was the spot to be!

We forced six dudes into a five passenger car and headed up to Torrey Pines State Preserve. I honestly had forgotten how beautiful it was up there. (I haven’t been to San Diego since sophomore year in college and who knows when the last time I was in La Jolla.)

As with all California parking, we had to park half a mile away, but that simply gave us more time to enjoy the scenery and company we were with.

Once inside the specific state park boundaries, we walked up the road for 10-15 minutes before breaking off and heading down towards the beach. This provided us a beautiful and unabatted view of the ocean along with some pretty unique rock formations thanks to decades (centuries?) of runoff and erosion.

I lollygagged, per usual now, as I had brought my camera and was taking all the photos I could get my eyes on.

Once I caught up to everyone, we were basically at sea level and the rest of the crew hopped out onto a rock formation that, when the tide roars in, looks like a mini island. I initially was worried about going out just in case the tide came in when I was crossing and I (though more importantly my camera) got wet. Eventually, I made my way out there and continued playing the role of photographer-in-chief.

After hanging out there for 30 minutes or so, we walked back along the beach, getting a full weekend’s worth of Vitamin D – actually too much as us white guys with desk jobs get burned pretty easily.

Once back to the Gaslamp area, we continued shenanigans but I’ll pass on writing about that for obvious reasons!
