Let’s start with the classic. Uno is the perfect camping game because it’s small, it’s fast, and it gets chaotic in the best possible way. The rules are simple enough that kids can jump right in, but when someone drops a Draw Four on you right when you’re about to win, the drama is very real.
However, we’ve added a few twists and turns to this game. It’s become “Spicy” or “Fast Uno.” Here’s the gist:
- You can play out of turn if you have the same card and/or the same number and color (must be both)
- You can stack Draw # cards, so people may have to draw 8 or more
2. Scrabble (Personally own)
Okay, Scrabble at camp might sound a little intense, but hear me out. If you’ve got a slower afternoon or an evening where you want something more cerebral, Scrabble is genuinely a blast. It sparks conversation, creates a healthy competitive edge, and you’ll inevitably get into at least one heated debate about whether a word is real.
Grab the travel version. It’s compact, the tiles have pegs to keep them from sliding around, and it won’t take up much space in your car. Fair warning: this one tends to separate the wordsmiths from the rest of us, and things can get surprisingly competitive.

3. Yahtzee (Personally own)
There’s hardly a more iconic game in the world. Yahtzee is one of those camping games that works for any age and any group dynamic. The portable travel version is perfect, thanks to its cup, lid, and everything tucking away neatly.

- Blackjack – Simple, fast, and everyone already knows the rules.

6. Rummikub
Think Rummy, but with tiles and somehow even more addictive. Rummikub is a brilliant game where you’re drawing and playing numbered tiles to build sets and runs on the table, and the trick is that you can rearrange everything that’s already been played to make your move work. It sounds chaotic, and honestly, it is.
But that’s what makes it so great. It plays well with 2–4 people, and the travel version packs down reasonably well for camping. Once your group learns this one, it’ll become a regular request at the campsite.
7. Dice Games (Personally own)
Much like a deck of cards, a handful of dice unlocks a whole world of camping entertainment. Here are some of the best dice games to play:

9. Flip 7 (Personally own)
Flip 7 is a newer card game that’s been making serious waves, and it’s hilarious. My parents got this for my birthday, and it’s a hoot!
The concept is simple: flip cards to build your hand without going over a total of seven unique numbers. But there are action cards that disrupt everything, and the decision of when to stop flipping is where the real tension lives.
It plays fast (15–30 minutes), handles 2–8 players, and is incredibly easy to teach. This is one of those games that’s become a staple in camping bags everywhere because it’s so easy to pull out and play in any situation. Highly recommend picking this one up.
10. Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza
The name alone should tell you everything. This is a fast reflex card game where players flip cards and say “taco,” “cat,” “goat,” “cheese,” or “pizza” in order; whenever a card matches the word, everyone slaps the pile. Special cards come with unique physical actions.
It’s silly, it’s fast, and it’s wildly fun for all ages. Games last about 10–15 minutes, making them perfect for playing a few rounds before bed or while waiting for food to cook. One of the most fun camping games for families.

11. Exploding Kittens (Personally own)
I freaking LOVE this game. My buddies and I played our entire backpacking trip in the Enchantment and had a crazy, fun time.
If your camping crew has a sense of humor (and let’s hope they do), Exploding Kittens is a must. It’s a strategic card game about trying not to draw an Exploding Kitten, using action cards to stack the deck, skip turns, and sabotage your friends.
It’s clever, chaotic, and wildly funny, especially around a campfire when everyone’s loosened up. The base game supports up to 5 players, but there’s also an expansion if you’ve got a bigger group. Small box, huge entertainment value. This one earns a permanent spot in my camp kit.

12. Bananagrams (Personally own)
I think I’ve been playing this since I was in high school over a decade ago.
Scrabble’s faster, more frenetic cousin. In Bananagrams, everyone builds their own crossword grid simultaneously. It can be complete word-building chaos. When you’re done with your tiles, you yell “Peel!” and everyone draws another.
It plays 1–8 people and fits in a little banana-shaped pouch that takes up almost no space. It’s a great option for word lovers who want something a little more high-energy than traditional Scrabble. Plus, it works on any flat surface.
13. Monopoly Deal
All the chaos of Monopoly in about 15 minutes, and no board required. Monopoly Deal is a fast card game where you’re collecting property sets, charging rent, and stealing from your friends before they do the same to you. It’s ruthless, it’s funny, and it fits in your back pocket.
Plays 2–5 people and is easy enough to learn in one round. A perfect campfire game when you want something quick but competitive.

Great Non-Card Camping Games
Two non-card games that are perfect for camping are cornhole (bag toss) and ladder ball. Both are extremely fun and ramp up the level of competition for everyone at the campground.
Corn hole requires a little more room in the car, but ladderball is easy to transport.
If there’s a cornhole game nearby, I’m instantly attracted, and it’ll be hard to pull me away for the rest of the day!
