Reviewing the Men’s North Face Summit Series Breithorn Down Hoodie
A few months before I moved to Seattle, I knew I would need a warm and dependable down jacket. After looking around, I chose the North Face Summit Series Breithorn Down Hoodie. For the last three years, it has been with me on serious adventures and has braved the frigid temperatures of the Arctic Circle.
It’s one of my favorite pieces of adventure gear, and I wanted to write a review of the North Face Summit Series Breithorn Down Hoodie to help people learn a little bit more about it from my perspective and help them decide if it’s right for them.

What do I like about the Summit Series Breithorn Down Hoodie?
I’m by no means a gear nerd, but I really do like the Summit Series Breithorn Down Hoodie. It keeps me quite warm (with proper layering), is comfy, and packs down relatively well. And while I usually combine it with my TNF Rain Jacket, if the down jacket gets a little water on it, it repels it nicely.
I also like the ample pocket space it has. There’s a chest zipper, two zippered pockets, and an inside pouch on both sides for stashing snacks or mittens.
Where have I taken the Men’s North Face Summit Series Breithorn?
It’s come with me to the Arctic Circle and Fairbanks, Alaska, where I endured -25F temperatures watching the aurora. It’s also been to Canada, where I’ve summited peaks and then all the classic Washington spots, including snowshoeing at Mount Rainier and Mount Baker and summiting Mount Baker in June 2024.
Other Things To Note About The North Face Hoodie
- It has held its down well. We all know about the down floating out randomly, but based on how much use it has gotten, I’d say it is still near full capacity.
- Yes, it’s expensive. But I believe a down jacket that will last years is a worthy investment.
- Are there warmer jackets? I know there are. Eddie Bauer has a 1000-fill down jacket, and I’m sure their brands have 800+ fills, too. But if you like TNF gear and are looking for a trustworthy jacket, I can’t recommend this enough!
