5 ‘Can’t Miss’ things to do in Whistler during the summer

To truly understand the beauty of Whistler, British Columbia, you have to go there. There are so many things to do in Whistler it’ll boggle your mind. Surrounded by stunning peaks, Whistler is nestled in the valley about 100 minutes north of Vancouver. In the winter, you’re regulated to shredding gnar on the slopes – which is excellent in its own right. But during the summer months, to visit Whistler is to see its greatest attributes open up and allow you endless excitement and adventure.

Here are my top five things to do when you visit Whistler.

If you come to Whistler and don’t plan to get out and about, you’re doing yourself a disservice. The area is full of some of the most unbelievable views, which will blow your socks off. So make sure to spend at least one full day out with Mother Nature.

Train Wreck

Years ago, there was a train wreck outside of Whistler. Instead of cleaning it up, they left it, and for someone reason, people started using graffiti on train cars. Now, it’s an art exhibit of sorts. This is a very easy stroll through the trees.

Take the Gondola to the top of Whistler Blackcomb

It’s about $55 to take the Gondola up for the day, and it’s well worth it! The 360-degree views are stunning, and there’s no better place to grab some brews with your friends. An added benefit is taking it up and over to the other mountain. It’s a pretty gnarly ride as you go Peak-2-Peak.

Experience Whistler

Breweries. Olympic Village. Golf. Food.

There’s so much to do in the town of Whistler – don’t pass it up. With the internet, I’ll leave this one open for you to decide what to do. I will recommend checking out as many of the breweries as possible. It’s somewhat hard to get local Candian beer outside of Canada.

White Water Rapids

You do this down in Squamish, about 45 minutes from Whistler. There are a few different rafting companies you can choose from, but almost all will be full-day trips. This was one of the highlights of the trip. The rapids were grand, the company fantastic, and the weather perfect. Is there anything better than rafting a river surrounded by towering mountains? The answer is no.

Mountain Biking

Whistler in the summer is heaven for mountain bikers. We didn’t do that this trip (not that I do much mountain biking anyways), but this place was absolutely packed with people cruising down the slopes. From what I’ve heard, this is one of the best places to go if you’re all in on mountain biking.

There are plenty of other things to do in Whistler that I sorely missed. But these five are the ‘Can’t-Miss’ things to do.

Enjoy your trip to British Columbia. You’ll never forget it!
