What to do for a bachelor party in Breckenridge, Colorado

Living in Denver, I wanted a fun bachelor party weekend without going overboard on cost and travel. Plus, with a destination wedding in the future, I also wanted to keep my bachelor party relatively low-key and cost-conscious.

For me, Breckenridge seemed like the perfect spot for my bachelor party weekend.

Now, I will note that we did this in the shoulder season – mid-October – so the slopes were dry and the town was in an in-between phase for tourism. But that was just what I wanted!

Let’s dive into the things to do for a bachelor party weekend in Breck!

Things to do in Breckenridge for a Bachelor Party Weekend

For a three-night trip, there are just enough things to do in Breckenridge, Colorado. I’m far more of a hang out with friends at the house playing games, than going clubbing, so my weekend was perfect.

Go hiking

There are incredible hiking opportunities around Breckenridge during the summer and fall months. If you’re not from Colorado or Denver, I would caution you on doing anything too hard, as the altitude will be a wake-up call.

We did the Mohawk Lakes Trail to the upper lake. It was about 7.5 miles round trip.

Here are some options to check out:

  • Mohawk Lakes (Moderate)
  • Quandry Peak (14er) (Hard)
  • Mayflower Gulch (Moderate)
  • Lilly Pad Lake (Moderate)
  • Mount Royal Trail (Moderate-Hard)

Do a whiskey tour at Breckenridge Distillery

An excellent option for a group of guys to kill a couple of hours in the afternoon.

It costs $35 per person, with a $10 add-on for additional tasting afterward. They do a nice job of telling you about the distillery’s history and its whiskey-making process. If you’ve done a prior tour, it’ll be pretty similar. Still, the whiskey was tasty!

Check out the breweries downtown

There are a couple of breweries in town to check out:

  • Broken Compass Brewing (two locations)
  • Highside Brewing
  • Breckenridge Brewing

Hit the slopes

For those going in winter, this is likely your main attraction, and you won’t be doing much else. I haven’t been on the mountain yet, but from everything I’ve heard, it’s world-class skiing and snowboarding.

Take the gondola up during the summer

During the summer months, you can take the gondola up into the mountains to hang out and go hiking. Unfortunately, they closed to transition to winter at the beginning of October, so my group missed out.

If you want a little twist on your hiking, this seems like a pretty cool way to go about it!

Itinerary for a Bachelor Party Weekend in Breckenridge, Colorado

Thursday Night Arrival

Most of the bachelor party group drove up Thursday evening, with two stragglers coming up on Friday. This allowed us to get settled in, avoid any traffic, and have a full day on Friday.

That evening, we hot tubbed and played games until 2-3am.

Friday – Hiking

I wanted to get a good hike in before bachelor party shenanigans started. By 10am, we were on the road up to Mohawk Lakes. The trailhead is quite accessible, only 15 minutes south of downtown.

Everyone’s different when it comes to athleticism and endurance, but this was a perfect 7.5-mile hike for our group. The trail had about 1,700 feet of gain (most of it towards the end). Mohawk Lake has a half dozen lakes along the trail. We didn’t do the full trail, which would have put us closer to 10 miles on the day. Still, we made it to Upper Mohawk Lake.

Here, the wind was whipping and surely put the wind chill into the low 20s, if not the upper teens.

By early afternoon, we were on our way back to the house. After grabbing some food, we jumped into the hot tub and waited for the rest of the crew to arrive.

We all had intentions of going out, but once a game of Liars’ Dice got rolling (no pun intended), we decided to order in and keep playing games.

Saturday – Whiskey Tour and Downtown

We scheduled a 2pm whiskey tour at Breckenridge Distillery and had a great time! The tour lasts about an hour, and you get tasters at the beginning. We paid $10 each to try even more whiskey afterwards. It was basically an all-you-can-drink fest. And at 9,000 feet, I sure felt it!

I think the gents all enjoyed it.

After that, we headed into downtown for some food at Ollie’s Pub and Grub and to watch college football. After plenty of happy hour wings and some brews, the gang kept the party going to Downstaris at Eric’s for arcade games.

By 10pm, we all headed back to the house for more games and hot tubbing.

All in all, a 10/10 day with the guys.

Sunday – Head Home

Unfortunately, our VRBO had a 10am checkout time (which we definitely didn’t adhere to). By 10:30, we were moving slowly out the door, and with people (me) feeling a bit hungover, we decided ot get down the mountain instead of hanging out in Breckenridge for the morning.

It was such a great bachelor party weekend in the Colorado Rockies, and I was immensely grateful to my friends for coming to celebrate with me!

Getting to and from Breckenridge

The drive from Denver to Breck is about as easy as it can be in Colorado. With little traffic, it’s right around 90 minutes flat. Once you get onto I-70, you stay there until you hit the Frisco/Breckenridge exit. From there, you’ve got 15 minutes until the bachelor party begins!

Where to Stay in Breckenridge for a Bachelor Party Weekend

There are plenty of large houses available around Breck. We chose to stay outside of downtown (to the north) by about 8 minutes. But if you want to be squarely in the downtown area, there are plenty of options as well.

If you’re doing a summer/fall bachelor party and want to play golf, the golf course is north of downtown. There are a gazillion houses available in the region.

Lastly, for those doing a winter bachelor party and looking to stay just off the slopes, you will want to be near downtown. There are tons of options available, as well. But it’s not cheap. A quick look at weekends in February has prices between $1,250-$3,000 per night. (But they also sleep 12+.)

Shoulder Season Cost Estimates for Breckenridge

For my Breckenridge bachelor party weekend in October, the eight of us spent less than $400 per person, including lodging, one dinner (ordered from Cheba Hub to the house), groceries (snacks and drinks), and the whiskey tour.

I wanted to keep costs down with people traveling to Costa Rica a few months later, and I was very happy with how things turned out.

Our house was huge, and it cost less than $1600 for three nights. I consider that a huge win!

What to consider when visiting Breckenridge

Here are the four biggest things to consider/know about when visiting Breckenridge.

The air is dry

It is ridiculously dry in the mountains, and you’ll need to be constantly drinking water throughout your trip. By the time we were headed home, I had almost lost my voice, and my skin was cracked all over.

Remember to bring lotion, drink tons of water, and have a throat lozenge.

Drinking at elevation can be rough

We didn’t even drink that much – at least compared to college life – and boy does the altitude affect how you feel.

Breck is at 9,700 feet above sea level, making you feel more drunk than you actually are. Plus, dehydration plays a major role in how you feel as well.

My advice: take it easy to start.

Peak season is expensive

While October might have been inexpensive, peak-season prices can be double or triple shoulder-season prices. Now, your bachelor party is on its own timeline, but if you’re looking to keep prices down for the group, consider going off-season.

Hot Tub Available

I’d highly recommend making sure your place has a hot tub. I think most spots do in the area, but it’s one thing to note as you’re looking for lodging in the area.

Final Thoughts on Doing Your Bachelor Party in Breckenridge

Breckenridge is a fantastic place to have your bachelor party, no matter the time of year. Across all seasons, there are epic things to do in the area, from hitting the slopes to hiking and summiting peaks or tasting whiskey.

However you plan your trip, you’re guaranteed a memorable weekend with your closest friends!

Until next time, adventurers, stay safe.
