Reviewing the Manfrotto PRO Light Multiloader Camera Backpack

The Manfrotto PRO Light Multiloader is a top-tier camera backpack built for professional photographers and filmmakers who need serious gear protection and versatility. I got this for my Alaska bear trip in August 2024 and loved the accessibility, carrying capacity, and size.

I still have a WANDRD 30L back, but I’ve found that this one has more room for lenses and is more comfortable to carry on my back.

If you’re shooting on a trip or on assignment in the city, this pack is designed to keep your equipment secure and easily accessible.

What Can I Fit Inside the Backpack?

I brought a Canon R5, Canon 100-500 RF, Canon 70-200 EF, Sony A7r5, and a Sony 24-70 on my trip to Alaska. (Confused about the different companies? I worked with Sony on this trip, primarily to try out the 400mm 2.8.)

I also had a DJI Mavic Mini 3 Pro. I also had various batteries, my laptop, chargers, and cleaning supplies. Sure, it was tight and heavy, but it got it all into one bag and made traveling easy!

Features

At the core of the PRO Light series is Manfrotto’s M-Guard™ Protection System—a lab-tested design that delivers superior shock resistance, especially in the areas that matter most. The M-Guard™ dividers are made from high-density EVA foam, offering outstanding impact absorption without adding bulk.

Plus, SAS-TEC viscoelastic memory foam reinforces the base of the pack, providing extra shock absorption where you need it. For added security, you can even lock the main compartment using a TSA-approved padlock with a built-in steel wire puller.

Looking inside the PRO Light Multiloader Camera Backpack M

One of the standout features of the Multiloader is its four access points, giving you ultimate flexibility when you’re on the move. You get:

  • A front-loading main compartment for full gear access
  • Dual side openings for quick lens swaps
  • A top opening for grabbing your most-used gear in a flash

The modular carrying system lets you wear the pack in three different ways: as a traditional backpack for all-day comfort, a sling bag for quick lens changes, or a duffle bag for easy, on-the-go access. The pack also features a side attachment for a full-size tripod and a split front attachment for carrying monopods or small light stands.

Other key features include a checkpoint-friendly 15” laptop compartment, adjustable torso height, double chest straps, and a padded waist belt to help distribute weight for all-day comfort. The breathable EVA mesh back panel keeps things cool, while the water-repellent Ripstop nylon/polyester fabric ensures durability without unnecessary weight. High-quality Duraflex hardware, YKK zippers, and Hypalon reinforcements make this pack ultra-tough and built to last.

To top it off, the DuoFace sun/rain cover protects your gear from the elements—keeping it dry in a storm and cool under the sun.

No matter if you’re deep in the wilderness or navigating an urban jungle, the Manfrotto PRO Light Multiloader has your back—literally.

Should You Get this Manfrotto Backpack?

I know there are a TON of camera backpacks in the world, and I’ll be honest, I’ve only tried this one and the WANDRD. But I do like it. The price point is a bit steep. But if you plan to use it for years, it’s a solid investment!

PROS:

  • Pack a lot of gear and tech inside
  • Sturdy
  • Good design for carrying
  • Fits under airplane seat
  • The top area is really nice for quick access
  • Easy ability to arrange inside compartments

CONS:

  • Not super compact
  • Pricey
  • Outside straps can come undone
  • Side pockets aren’t ideal for carrying water bottles (with the strap, a small tripod works fine)

If you’re not looking to carry multiple bodies and lenses, including telephoto ones, maybe opt for a smaller bag. But for me, and what I like to do (which is carry a lot of gear), the Manfrotto Pro Light Backpack was perfect for the Alaska trip and other trips since!

Until next time, adventurers, stay safe.
